To become 2: Certainties of Doubt is the second chapter of a long-term co-creation project led by artists Eden Dodd (Glasgow, UK) and L. Camus-Govoroff (Paris, FR), with curator Flora Fettah (Marseille, FR). Developed through conversations and shared moments of experimentation, it unfolds through residencies, exhibitions and publications.

The first exhibition, titled Arming Oneself, took place in Marseille in October 2023. Against increasingly hostile global and national contexts, it explored the necessity and (im)possibilities of violence from a queer perspective, considering the exhibition space as a place in which to form strategies of protection and self-defence, both for themselves and their communities.

Three years later, Certainties of Doubt takes Goliarda Sapienza’s eponymous book (Le certezze del dubbio, 1987) as a starting point for developing a methodology around the exhibition, while responding to the present moment. As uncertainty and violence have become increasingly normalised, the ways in which we navigate the troubled waters of our time are constantly being renegotiated. This new iteration therefore continues the evolving artistic and political concerns explored by the three collaborators. It also responds to the growing necessity to reactivate a transnational research space between France and Scotland, at a time when the violences at the core of their alliance continue to intensify. Conceived and staged collaboratively, the exhibition space reaffirms their individual yet shared intent to spiral upwards, and to foster a place for themselves and others to pause, rest and reflect.

To become 2: Certainties of Doubt is hosted by David Dale Gallery as the outcome of a summer residency held in August 2026. The project brings together new collaborative works produced by the two artists at Glasgow Sculpture Studios, alongside earlier works. It received the support of The Hope Scott Trust and Fluxus Art Projects.

To become 2 is a curatorial platform by French curator Flora Fettah, dedicated to feminist collective practices. Through duo shows, publications and workshops, it generates long term collaborations in order to find ethical and sustainable ways of collaboration in the arts. Previous and ongoing iterations feature Sara Ouhaddou & Emii Alrai, Marilou Poncin & Pauline Pastry, Jehane Mahmoud & Camille Soualem, Eden Dodd & L. Camus-Govoroff, Prune Phi, Écoles des Beaux-arts de Marseille (INSEAMM) and Angers (TALM).
