TALKER #16: Martín La Roche
Publication Launch

With performances by Martín La Roche, Lillian Ross-Millard and Giles Bailey
Friday 6th February, 6–9pm

TALKER is an interview zine about performance. Each issue publishes a long-form interview with an artist who works in an innovative way with live practice. Recent issues have featured, Anne Bean, Mayo Thompson, Bobby Baker, Agus Nur Amal PMTOH, Gustav Metzger and Miranda July.

Born in Santiago Chile (1988), Martín La Roche is a visual artist living in Amsterdam. His works often find their starting points from existing collections of objects and memories, archives as modes of storytelling which he reassembles into installations, performances or publications.

At David Dale Gallery he will present the Musée Légitime, a museum inside a hat.

Lillian Ross-Millard is a Canadian performer and moving image artist based in Glasgow. She was raised by two theatre makers, and had one grandmother and one great-grandmother who made their living as entertainers. Her practice navigates performance as an inherited tool for survival, but also a thing of peril in itself. She weaves narrative text and super-gestures, and recently has been teaching herself how to paint.

Lillian is trained in a grab-bag of 20th century performance pedagogies, i.e Jacques Lecoq and Jerzy Grotowski, Viewpoints, and mentored by Zuppa Theatre Co. She is a long term collaborator and mentee of Swedish video artist Gunilla Josephson. She also has a collective with Anne White and Miranda Jones who recently finished a year-long residency with LA SERRE – ART VIVANTS in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal, where they were developing Harmony Needs More Than One, an installation and durational performance exploring the politics of the word harmony.

Giles Bailey works with performance, using texts, video fragments and choreographies to explore how knowledge and meaning are generated through relationships with others. Since 2016, he has published TALKER, an interview zine about performance. Each issue publishes a long-form interview with an artist who works in an innovative way with live practice.
