The Glasgow Weekend is a 3-day festival of innovative, diverse and highly acclaimed visual art, film, performance, music and design from Glasgow, presented at the Volksbühne Theatre and BQ, during Berlin Art Week 2013.
David Dale Gallery will be curating an exhibition featuring three Glasgow-based artists – Marie-Michelle Deschamps, Ciara Phillips and Sarah Wright – alongside selections curated by The Duchy and Sarah Lowndes as part of a trio of exhibitions entitled Valise.
Valise will be held in BQ’s showroom (apartment upstairs from the gallery) and the Pavilion adjacent to the Volksbühne.
Marie-Michelle Deschamps lives and works in Glasgow, UK and Montreal, Canada. Deschamps graduated with an MA from Glasgow School of Art in 2012. Recent exhibitions include: Standard, David Dale Gallery, Glasgow (2013); Master Readings and S, M, L, Espace Saint-Valentin, Lausanne, Switzerland (2013); Life-Size (solo), articule, Montreal, (2011); Eaux Vives, Jardins Bellenau, France (2011). Deschamps has upcoming solo exhibitions at CIRCA, Montreal, Canada (2013); and Collective Gallery, Edinburgh (as part of New Work Scotland Programme, 2014). Deschamps will be presenting work at Sunday, London, 2013, with Galerie Gregor Staiger.
Ciara Phillips lives and works in Glasgow, UK. Phillips graduated with an MA from Glasgow School of Art in 2004. Recent exhibitions include: There Will Be New Rules Next Week, Dundee Contemporary Arts, Dundee (2013); And more (solo), Inverleith House, Edinburgh (2013); The Souls: A Twice Told Tale, CEAAC, Strasbourg (2013); Slippery under pressure (solo), OUTPOST, Norwich (2012); Pull Everything Out (with Corita Kent and Ciara Phillips), Spike Island, Bristol (2012); Start with a practical idea(solo), Gregor Staiger, Zurich (2012); The only rule is work (solo), Kendall Koppe, Glasgow (2011). Phillips has upcoming exhibitions at The Showroom, London, and at the Neues Museum Nürnberg, both 2013. She is currently artist-in-residence at Drawing Room, London; and has an upcoming residency at St. John’s College, Oxford in 2014.
Sarah Wright lives and works in Glasgow, UK. Wright graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2009. Recent exhibitions include: Glasgow Print Studio, Ground floor gallery, Glasgow (2013); Costume Written Clothing, Tramway, Glasgow (2013); Print Process, The Glue Factory, Glasgow (2013) and 21 Revolutions with Glasgow Women’s Library, Intermedia Gallery, Glasgow (2012), and Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh (2013). Wright has an upcoming solo exhibition in Intermedia Gallery, Glasgow in November, 2013.
