To become 2: Arming Oneself is a long term co-creation project led by artists Eden Dodd (Glasgow, UK) and L. Camus-Govoroff (Paris, FR), with curator Flora Fettah (Marseille, FR). Built through conversations and shared moments dedicated to experimentation, it unravels through residency, exhibition and publication.

During its first iteration at Soma, Marseille in 2023, the artists interwove their works and created new collaborative pieces to explore the necessity and (im)possibilities of violence from a queer perspective. The project took as its starting point the image of the spider and its web, seen as metaphors for the queer community, strategies for protection and forms of self-defence in a global context perceived as increasingly hostile.

Three years later, in the context of Glasgow, Marseille’s twin city, they reunite to pursue this research. Rather than a mere formal renewal, this new iteration forms part of an evolution in the artistic and political concerns that they explore. It also responds to the need to reactivate a transnational research space between France and Scotland, in a moment when the violences that were at the core of our alliance have continued to increase. At David Dale Gallery, the artists will aim to weave a new web, to force a place and a time for them to reflect, gather and hopefully, one more time, overturn fear.

To become 2 is a curatorial platform by French curator Flora Fettah, dedicated to feminist collective practices. Through duo shows, publications and workshops, it generates long term collaborations in order to find ethical and sustainable ways of collaboration in the arts. Previous and ongoing iterations feature Sara Ouhaddou & Emii Alrai, Marilou Poncin & Pauline Pastry, Jehane Mahmoud & Camille Soualem, Eden Dodd & L. Camus-Govoroff, Prune Phi, Écoles des Beaux-arts de Marseille (INSEAMM) and Angers (TALM).
